Hello everyone! Like many of you, we have been getting back into the swing of things as school has started up and schedules get busier. We have spent some time recently meeting with the principal and vice principal of the school to discuss fundraising needs and goals.
As a result of these meetings, and due to the agreement that we need to focus our efforts on larger more lucrative fundraisers as well as grant applications, we have decided to make a few changes to some of our on-going fundraisers. The changes are listed below:
- We will be cancelling our Independent Consultant Fundraiser effective immediately. We would like to thank everyone who contacted us regarding participating in this fundraier. We wish you all the best with your endeavours.
- The school has obtained a recycle bin located on the east end of the parking lot. There is a company that will be collecting bottles that are dropped into this bin and all of the proceeds will go directly to the school. As such, we are going to cancel our bottle drop off at the depot as well as our monthly collections and we ask that if you would like to donate bottles, that you take them to the school and drop them in the bin instead.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
That being said, we are working on some larger fundraisers to come later this year or early next year, our casino application has been approved and will be sent off soon (we still have a 12-18 month wait) and we hope that you’ll keep your eyes and ears open and support us on those when they happen.
Have a great weekend!
We are very excited to announce a new ongoing fundraiser for New Brighton School. We will be selling gift cards to over 130 retailers, including grocery, gasoline, entertainment, restaurants and many more.
This fundraiser requires no out of pocket donations.
You purchase a $25 gift card and you get a $25 gift card! A portion of the proceeds are donated to the New Brighton Elementary Parent’s Association. It’s a win/win. If you’re going to purchase groceries anyway, why not do so using gift cards that you’ve ordered through our FundScrip fundraiser? Need gas? Have some gift cards handy to pay for your gasoline and help the school kids get a playground at the same time. You can even set up a recurring order for your everyday needs such as groceries or gasoline so you never have to forget to order your gift cards (instructions are here: Recurring Orders)
Cards will be directly mailed to you and payment can be made easily by electronic fund transfer (more money comes to us as we don’t have to cover the credit card fees), online bill payment feature or credit card.
These are fantastic for everyday use but with Christmas season around the corner, they also make great gifts for family, friends, teachers alike. It’s open to anyone, anywhere because it is online so please let your family and friends know and help us spread the word. Click on the link below to start buying your gift cards now and help us build the kids a playground!
September Promotions are shown below.
Below are only some of the retailers available. Visit the website at http://www.fundscrip.com/retailers to see them all.
We’d like to thank everyone who came out yesterday to donate bottles for our bottle drive at London Drugs!
Just a reminder that you can donate bottles anytime by dropping them off at the Southpointe Bottle Depot and letting them know they are for our group.
As part of the community clean up event today at London Drugs on 130th (Community Clean Up), we are collecting bottles for the school. What a great day to start your fall cleaning! Bring your bottles by! We’ll be here from 9-2pm. Help us fill this trailer and build a playground!
Things seemed to go relatively smoothly this morning as kids found their classes, met their teachers and began their first day at the new school. We hope your kids have an amazing first day at New Brighton School!
Tomorrow is the first day of school for the New Brighton School kids. Last week the following letter came out from Principal Hutton regarding what to expect the first day and where to meet. Please review and ensure you know where to take your kids.
School begins at 8:10am, dismisses at 11:45am for lunch, returns at 12:40pm and dismisses at 3:10pm for the day.
Kindergarten kids will be on a staggered entry system the first week (no kindergarten classes on Friday). Details can be found here: Kindergarten Orientation Recap
Grade 5 students should follow the details outlined here for the first day (NOTE: they are not meeting in the gym with the other kids): Dr. Martha Cohen First Day Instructions
Hope your your young ones have a fantastic first day!
Today the school was opened up for visitors to walk through and see the building this community has been waiting so long for. We collected some photos and have put them on our Construction/School Photo page (link here or above) Construction/School Photos
The school is light, bright, open and airy. It contains many features that will surely lead to a great school environment for the kids. Subtle touches like a water fountain in the gymnasium, open door bathroom with sinks open to the hallway for easy handwashing and a kitchen with a passthrough into the student gathering area/lunchroom show the thought that has gone into designing the school. Although many of the teachers are still setting up classrooms and common areas such as the library and student gathering area, some of the rooms that had been put together show the diversity and creativity of the teachers. The school crosswalk and playground zone signs are up. The construction fences will remain up until the first frost in order to protect the new sod. After that, they will be removed and the school will be open to the field side. Some of the fencing to the parking lot will remain, we are told, ensuring the kids are protected from traffic.
We got to see some of the equipment that the school will be starting with as well. There are shared tables for the students, books in the library, electronic boards in the classrooms, gym equipment and musical equpment. Our goal as a fundraising society for the school is not only to build a playground as soon as possible, but to supplement and add to this equipment within the school. We look forward to working with the school and parents of the student body to bring in the funds needed to do that.
See you all on Tuesday! Have a great long weekend!
